A few weeks ago I went to Canada for a short trip, and over the next few days i’ll show a sample from the Canada Gallery on the front page. So where better to start than on the flight over.

I’ve never been too sure if you can take photos from planes – turns out it’s ok so as Flight AC858 from Heathrow to Toronto started to fly over the edge of Canada out came the camera.

The reason… The frozen landscape stretching for miles first spotted when the sea seemed to stop moving and weird patterns were appearing. As the plane got closer it became obvious the water had frozen and the ’strange patterns’ were where snow had drifted against ridges on the ice. Fantastic views

The photo shown here is a little later into the flight when the first real landmass started to appear – amazing views from the plane but really wanted to be down on the ground for some crazy reason!

Seeing as how people stumble across this site from various search engines looking for galleries about all sorts I thought it’d be worth highlighting a new site thats been set up to showcase the various Gallery2 websites around.

So if your looking at some idea’s of what you can do with Gallery2, or just want to check out some other photo sites then head over to g2-sites.com and if you currently have a Gallery2 powered site then don’t forget to submit yours to the list! :)

That site again: www.g2-sites.com

There are now a selection of photos avaliable from Canada where i’ve recently spent a fantastic couple of weeks. So to see some awesome frozen land pictures (the landscapes awesome, the pictures… not so much…), a cold Toronto and the Niagara River full of ice head over to the Canada Gallery.

There are also some photos from the HSBC Arena (Buffalo, NY) of the Buffalo Sabres v Atlanta Thrashers game in the Niagara Gallery – I figure they’re more or less the same geographic area and don’t want to start a USA gallery.

A great experience to see a hockey match in North America despite the mainly American crowd booing the Canadian National Anthem. Totally Disrespectful!

I’ll try and feature some of the better photos on the front page over the coming days/weeks.

I’m currently upgrading the software used on gonewalkabout. There are new versions of both Wordpress and Gallery2 avaliable. Most of the items are working, though i’ve a few template changes to clean up and i’m having a few problems with one of the gallery url’s which i’ll hopefully have resolved soon.

The Gallery now has a picture rating system, and when I figure the thing out RSS feeds :)

If you spot any problems then please let me know.

*Update*

So it looks like I’ve got everything now – Wordpress, Gallery2 and WPG2 (wordpress/g2 bridge) are all up and running and I have a nasty hack inplace to keep the url to the gallery working. It seems somethings changed (or i’m missing something) in embedded gallery – hopefully something that’ll change in the final release of Gallery2.2.

Also updated is the Photomap which has a few new features.
