After having a module added to the server that allows the gallery software to create thumbnails from video files (ffmpeg) i’ve started to add some videos to the gallery. So far they are just from Sydney over Christmas and New Year in 2003.

So if you want to see Santa on a jet ski in Darling Harbour during christmas eve, clips from the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race or New Years Eve Fireworks then head there now.

Be Warned: Some of the files are very large so broadband is recommended as is having Quicktime installed if you are using firefox or opera as a browser

Following on from this earlier posting the Gallery2 software used on this site has gone gold – so if you’re looking for gallery hosting software then give Gallery2 a go. They also just introduced a fastly improved website design and for some other examples of site running the Gallery2 software take a look at their links here.

Too add to this the wpg2 plugin to integrate Gallery2 with wordpress has also gone gold!

edit: update completed of both wpg2 and gallery2 and all appears to be working!

So it turns out my camera has a panoramic function on it! I’ve always known this and thought how it showed you where the images overlap was quite clever. However I always thought that the putting of the images back together on a PC at a later date would be a little tedious and so rarely took any.

It has though recently been brought to my attention, and its something I would have known years ago if i’d Read the Manual, that Canon provide a piece of software called photostitch that does this automatically for you!!! I’m now sat here kicking myself for not taking many more panoramic photos, particularly when in Australia – all the missed chances are coming back to me!

In a year there and 3000+ photos I took two panoramic shots! Now i’ve finally worked it all out they can be found ’stitched’ together in the gallery. It looks like i’ll be taking my IXUS 400 compact around with me a lot more, as well as a DSLR!

Lesson Learned: RTFM!! (Read the F**king Manual!)

Last weekend saw summer pretty much end with a few storms. While the rain wasn’t falling I managed to get a few photos of the lightning, and lots missing it all together. If there’s a god it seems to know when someones trying to take a photo of lightning and sends a bolt down always in between photos, or just out of shot!!

It turns out taking photos of lightning is quite addictive (sitting at my window for 2 hours the other night is proof of that). Can see why people do the storm chasing thing now!
